Nitehawks’ Burgeson joins AJHL’s Pontiacs

Hunter Burgeson of the Beaver Valley Nitehawks will play for the La Ronge Ice Wolves in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League this season. Burgeson had earned a spot with the Bonnyville Pontiacs in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, but the Pontiacs traded his playing rights to La Ronge on Sept. 20 for the rights to Joe Davidson and a player development fee.

In his lone season in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, the Airdrie, Alberta product finished second on the Nitehawks in points with 34 in 41 games in 2021-22. He added another nine points in 13 Teck Cup playoff games.

“It’s a huge accomplishment for me and a year in Beaver Valley helped me develop and become confident in my game,” said Burgeson, who scored 19 goals in the regular season and another five in the playoffs. “I took advantage of an opportunity and have made the best of it.”

Nitehawks Head Coach & GM Terry Jones said Burgeson had his sights set on making Junior A.

“It is great to see him accomplish this goal. I am certain that he will provide goal-scoring touch and playmaking ability for his new team. We wish him all the best with his new club.”
