Jacob Biench and Roderic May of the Chase Heat, along with Jesse Ihas of the Beaver Valley Nitehawks have been selected the Instat Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending, Dec. 12.
Biensch – Top Forward – The Marsden, Saskatchewan product collected five goals and two assists in three games for the Heat. Biensch enjoyed a four-goal, five-point performance in their 9-0 win over 100 Mile House and he scored to give the Heat a 2-0 lead. In their win over Osoyoos, Biensch scored his 12th goal of the season and assisted on another goal. On the season, Biensch has 12 goals and 25 points in 17 games, which ranks him 11th overall in the KIJHL in points.
Ihas – Top Defenceman – The Fruitvale, B.C. product collected four assists in two games. He had three assists in their win over Castlegar, including assisting on the 3-3 goal, and picked up his fourth assist in a loss to Fernie. Ihas leads the Nitehawks blueline in points with 16 in 16 games and is second on the team in assists with 14.
May – Top Goalie – The Salmon Arm product won both his starts for the Heat, turning aside 72 of 75 shots in wins over 100 Mile House on Dec. 7 and Osoyoos on Dec. 10. May made 26 saves against the Wranglers and turned aside 46 of 49 shots against Osoyoos for a .960 save percentage and a 1.44 goals against average. For the season, May has four wins in 10 games to go with a .916 save percentage and a 3.16 goals against average. His save percentage ranks him in the top-20 in the league, at No. 12.
